How to Use Neem Oil for Plants, the Perfect Way.
Many of our fellow gardeners, especially the beginners, say that Neem Oil Plant Spray is not effective in removing Insects and Fungus from their plants.
But we want to assure them that it does work if used in the following way:
- In case of insect infestation or disease, use Neem Oil Plant spray once or twice every week depending upon the severity of the problem.
- Keep on repeating the spray until the problem has been resolved.
- After that, switch to preventive spraying.
We need to understand that Neem Oil is not a poison that will directly kill insects and fungus etc in just one application. It eliminates insects by bringing hormonal and behavioral changes in them. Insects stop eating and reproducing. Hormonal changes arrest their growth from one stage to another. Eggs do not hatch or larvae do not develop into pupae.
For this to happen, we need to keep spraying frequently.
You may feel that it is a lot of work and that it would be easier to just use chemical pesticides. But we choose to do this extra work to keep our environment toxin-free and our family safe.
How to Make Neem Oil Plant Spray in 3 Easy to Follow Steps.
We prepare the neem oil spray for plants by mixing it with water. We always add a little liquid soap or shampoo, so that the oil and water gets properly mixed. The soap also works as a wetting agent and helps in making the Neem Oil mixture evenly stick to the plant when sprayed.
The quantity of neem oil to be mixed depends on its ppm.
The following procedure applies to our Organic Neem oil, which has a ppm up to 300. Mix
- Mix 2.5 ml of Neem oil to 1 liter of water.
- Add 2 to 3 ml of mild shampoo or dishwasher soap.
- Mix the oil and water together until a light white coloured solution is formed.
- If, even after mixing vigorously, the oil is still visible on the surface of the water, add a few more drops of soap and mix again.
Do not store the Neem Oil Plant spray mixture for the plant, as it will lose its effectiveness after a few days’ time.
It is important to add exactly the prescribed amounts of Neem oil because when it is mixed in excess, it will kill your plant.
Do a test spray of Neem Oil and check for any adverse effects before spraying it to the whole of your plants.
Neem Oil For Plants Price in India
- In the Indian market, Neem oil for plants is available in different concentrations.
- PPM is the unit that tells us the concentration of azadirachtin in Neem Oil. Natural cold-pressed neem oil usually has a ppm of up to 300.
- To get a higher PPM, Neem oil is then concentrated by adding insecticide to it.
- For home use, it is safer to only use cold-pressed Neem Oil with PPM up to 300. It is natural, organic, and safe for the home garden environment.
