It needs soil rich in organic matter like compost / kitchen compost or vermicompost to produce a good yield.

  • Prepare the soil mix by adding compost to it. Up to 50% of compost can be added.
  • Soak the seeds for 12 hours before sowing.
  • Sow the seeds at least 1 inch apart at the depth of 1/4 inches.
  • Keep the soil moist without flooding it until the seeds are germinated.
  • Once the seeds are germinated, place the pot where it gets at least 3 – 4 hours of sunlight.
  • After germination, water the pot only when the topsoil is dry.
  • Add Neem Cake powder and Seaweed Fertilizer when saplings achieve a height of 1 – 2 inches.
  • Kasuri Methi will be ready for harvest in a little over a month’s time.

How and When To Harvest Kasuri Methi Fenugreek ?

  • If you are growing Kasuri Methi for drying and storing to later use for flavoring dishes, then let it grow as a bunch and harvest it in one go.
  • In case you want to use its tender leaves in your day-to-day cooking like adding it to your Parathas or in Vegetable Curries, then you can start harvesting as soon as its stems are a few inches long. Clip the top half of the tender leaves and leave the bottom half to regrow.
  • This way you can have harvest multiple times till the plant flowers to produce seeds.
  • Try these easy to grow greens in your garden and enjoy your home-grown veggies.
